Haitian Relief Sampler Project

Dear Fellow Embroiderers :
We have all been following the news and , I am sure , have seen the devastation in Haiti . As with Katrina , and the tsunami , we stitchers band together.

Eileen Bennett has graciously donated the chart for her class piece “Colonial Band Sampler” to Valeri’s guild  to raise funds for Doctors Without Borders . Their facilities have all but been destroyed in the quake ,so they will need everything to help the Haitian people.

If you already have this chart , please consider a donation anyway . Even tho Valeri  has instigated this , it is not a Legacy Guild project and the funds collected will be donated in the name of Embroiderers United (unless we can come up with a better name - she is open to suggestions) , not Legacy . So please pass this info on to your friends , your guilds , LNS’ , blogs , fellow overseas embroiderers etc. Everyone is welcome to take part. Let’s make a difference ! And a huge thank you to Eileen , for making this possible !

If there are any other designers who wish to join in , she would be more than happy to offer a selection .
The verse is fitting - “There is no set path , Follow your heart “, You may donate any amount you wish , but for a minimum donation of $15.00 , Valeri  will send you a PDF of the chart , instructions and color picture. In their past disaster relief projects , they  have found that Paypal is the easiest way and her  account is:

Once you make your donation , she will receive an invoice and will send your chart to the email given . Please make sure you let her know if you wish to receive it to another email address. This has happened in the past , someone donates from their office computer , but wishes to receive at their home computer , so she has no problem with that .

News - Heritage Sampler SAL

September will be a month of several changes around the site. You will see a new image, I will start selling some of my charts, and also I will have an open SAL throughout my blog.

I named this chart Heritage Sampler in honor to my Dad and his origins. I’m proud to be dad’s little girl. I absolutely adore my Dad and even when he sees me stitching he raises his eyebrow  and look at me with his face of “yeah, it looks nice, but why are you wasting your time on it??” the truth is that I want to commemorate my love to him and my heritage and this is the best way that I know.

My Dad was born in The Canary Islands, Spain He and his family emigrated when he was just a little boy. Look at his picture at that time. wasn’t he adorable?

I always said that my grandma was a brave woman she came to a different culture  following her husband’s dreams. She came to a place that was totally different from her life in a little town and raised her five kids without ever complaining!! If there is something that I learned for her it was to show my best face in the adversity. She taught us by example that you don’t solve any problem complaining.  She passed away 9 years ago one December 25th  (exactly ten years after my grandpa’s) and I still miss her. Here is a picture of them more than 50 years ago

Because all of this  it was simple the election of the type of sampler that I created, A Spaniard Type. Here it is

Some of the bands are inspired in a 110 years old cross stitch booklet. You are invited to participate on it as well as just download it.   There will be 11 installments and the first  will be available on September 15th, the second installment  will be available on November 1st and after that you will find a new one the first day of each month  and only for that month, if you don’t want to wait for them  you will be able to buy a complete pdf chart starting September.

Heritage SAL - texto en castellano

Septiembre sera un mes de cambios en mi sitio. Veras una nueva imagen, comenzare a vender algunos de mis esquemas y tambien abrire un SAL a traves de este medio.

Nombre a este esquema Heritage Sampler (Muestrario de mi herencia)  en honor a mi padre y sus origenes. Soy una nena de papa confesa, yo a mi padre lo adoro y aun pese a que el cuando me ve bordando alza una ceja y pone su cara de “si se ve bonito, pero para que pierdes el tiempo con esas cosas”  La verdad es que quiero conmemorar mi amor por el y mi herencia y esta es la mejor forma que se como hacerlo.

Mi padre nacio en las Islas Canarias en España, el y su familia emigraron cuando era solo un niño chico. Mira una foto de esa epoca, no era un peque adorable?

Yo siempre he dicho que mi abuela era una gran mujer, acompaño  a su esposo a un lugar totalmente distinto siguiendo los sueños de el. Vino a un lugar totalmente nuevo y diferente al pequeño pueblo del que venia y crio a sus cinco hijos sin quejarse nunca!! Yo trato de seguir su ejemplo y dar mi mejor cara ante la adversidad, si algo aprendi de ella es que quejarse no soluciona los problemas. Mi abue fallecio 9 años atras un Diciembre 25 (exactamente el mismo dia en el que fallecio mi abuelo 10 años antes) y yo aun la extraño. Aca hay una foto de ambos mas de 50 años atras.

Por todo lo que les he contado comprenderan era facil la eleccion del tipo de Sampler que haria. Un muestrario estilo español.

Algunas de las bandas son inspiradas en un folleto de punto de cruz que tiene poco mas de 110 años. Estas invitada a bordar este SAL conmigo  asi como a solo descargar los graficos. Habra 11 entregas, la primera estara disponible el dia 15 de Septiembre,  la segunda entrega sera a partir del 1 de Noviembre y  a partir de ahi estara disponible la siguiente el primer dia de cada mes. Cada una esta disponible solo hasta que salga la nueva entrega. Si prefieres no esperar a cada entrega podras comprar el grafico en formato pdf a partir de septiembre.

El numero de madejas estimados lo propociono el software que uso para hacer mis diseños. El calculo se realiza par el bordar en 28 ct con dos hebras de hilo en  dos tramas del tejido. (2×2)

The girls of my forum will be finishing in three weeks and as soon as they are done I will show you their wonderful palettes. It’s amazing how much a piece can change and I encourage them to  put their personal’s touches, their results are gorgeous!!. I try to do at least once a year a teaching design for my girls but I can say that this is my favorite by far.
Las nenas de mi foro estaran terminando esta pieza en tres semanas y tan pronto la tengan hecha les mostrare sus maravillosas paletas. Es increible como cambia una pieza y yo las motivo a que pongan su propio toque en cada una. Al menos una vez al año trato de hacer un diseño para que practiquemos/aprendamos puntos especiales y este es por bastante my favorito.

Soon I will be posting gifts that I received ( expected and unexpected!!) as well as some blog prizes, The only thing that I’ll not post will be my cross stitch progresses because starting yesterday I’m dedicating all my cross stitch time exclusively to a very special project  that I have been working on the last three months and I hope I can show you on September first.
Pronto estare escribiendo acerca de algunos regalos que he recibido ( esperados e inesperados!!) asi como algunos premios dados a mi blos. Lo que no estare escribiendo en el proximo mes  es mis progresos en punto de cruz porque desde ayer estoy dedicando mi tiempo de bordado exclusivamente a un proyecto en el que he estado trabajando los ultimos tres meses y que espero poder mostrarles para el primero de septiembre
