“I used the technology of tennis in the dressing room to explain our results. It was full of our own mistakes,” Smith told Match of the Day.

“We made a light foul. Two times in the final lead were two goals conceded. We couldn’t lower our standards from the previous two games against Manchester United, but today it is showing.

“Our lost 0-3 at Spurs and 0-1 at Manchester United, I accept that because we played well. We did not create an opportunity to inform. I can stand here like every other manager and say we have people who are sick and injured. But we have to do better today.

“We lost 0-5 at home and now the staff and myself have to try to get the players up. I will ask them about this game and make sure we are ready for the next game.”
