Former Newcastle boss Steve Bruce had previously held talks with Jamaica. But it was McClaren who was appointed as the new manager on a two-year deal.
“I am very proud and excited to be taking on the role of head coach of the Jamaica national team.” he said. “I have no hesitation in accepting the position that is right for me at this stage of my career.”
“Before returning to Manchester United for the second time. I worked at FIFA as a technical advisor on the Global Eco Analysis project. Jamaica was one of the teams I worked with and I quickly realised the potential of the country.”
“Over the years, the potential has grown tremendously, and there is every reason to believe. That with hard work and continued development, a bright future lies ahead.”
