Florian Wirtz has suffered an ankle injury playing for Germany and will be out for an indefinite period of time.

Wirtz was substituted at half-time with an ankle problem. With Robert Andrick coming on in his place. But German coach Julian Nagelsmann revealed after the game that he did not yet know the severity of the injury.

Leverkusen have now confirmed that Wirtz will be out for some time. Which is bad news for coach Xavier Alonso as the 21-year-old midfielder has been the team’s best player after scoring four goals and providing one assist in six Bundesliga appearances this season.

Alonso also has several alternatives to Wirtz, ยูฟ่าเบท with Martin Tergrier, Amin Adli and Jonas Hofmann all likely to be less effective than the 21-year-old midfielder.

Xabi Alonso’s side are currently fifth in the table, three points behind leaders Bayern Munich, ahead of hosting third-placed Frankfurt at the BayArena on Saturday afternoon.

Leverkusen are not short of options to replace Wirtz in attacking midfield, with the likes of Jonas Hofmann, Martin Terrier and Nathan Tella all at Alonso’s disposal.
